Fort Bowie National Historic Site - Arizona

--- Few people make the trek into the hills of southern Arizona to find Fort Bowie.  The military fort within the site served as a base of operations for the U.S. Army's 1880s war against the Chiricahua Apache Indians and it is where the famed warrior Geronimo finally surrendered in 1886.  The site also interprets the important Butterfield Overland Stage route.  The stage route brought mail from St. Louis to Los Angles before the Civil War.

A 1.5 mile trail (3 miles round trip) will bring the students of History on the Move V to this amazing place.  The walk is part of the experience as you come to appreciate the remoteness and physical difficulty associated with living and working (and fighting) in this far off location.
Remnants of the Butterfield Overland Stage stop.  Remote?  Yes!
