Mission San Xavier Del Bac - Tucson, AZ

Mission San Xavier Del Bac (the White Dove of the Desert)
--- Mission San Xavier Del Bac is known as the "White Dove of the Desert".  This Catholic mission was established in 1692, though the church itself was built in 1797.  When the church was built it was on land claimed as New Spain.  Later, the land transitioned to Mexico and then to the United States, but all the while the original inhabitants of this area, the Tohono O'odham people, utilized the mission then, as they do today, as a place of religious fulfillment. The mission is uniquely listed as National Historic Landmark.  The connection between the past and present can be witnessed in both the structure, its setting, and its continuing role in the culture of the Tohono O'odham people.  It is beautiful and amazing.

Students of History on the Move V will eat lunch made by local American Indians at this special place located just outside of Tucson, Arizona.
