Running the rapids on the Piedra River in southwestern Colorado
--- A consistent theme when one studies the history of the West or the Southwest is the challenges presented by the environment. Everyone from American Indians to European explorers, pioneers, and even present day visitors and residents of the region have to negotiate the sometimes inhospitable geography of the Southwest. Students participating in History on the Move V will meet these challenges at various times, including when they venture onto the Piedra River for a white water adventure challenge that will be both thrilling and educational. Running the Piedra River is a heart pounding experience and requires the services of professional guides. It is an all day trip and not for the faint of heart.
