|Fresh Fruit Pies at the Gifford Homestead|
I have MANY favorite moments from this past class, but I particularly enjoyed our visit to the historic Gifford Homestead in Capitol Reef National Park. Why? Because they are carrying on the traditions of the early Mormon pioneers here by baking fresh fruit pies every morning. Thanks to the Carrikers for providing us with a selection of those still-warm pies. I believe we had one of each (cherry, apple, peach, mixed berry, and strawberry rhubarb) at our impromptu pie party in Capitol Gorge. Sure, it was windy but it was oh so delicious and a fantastical way to connect with history by "Tasting the Pioneer Spirit of Fruita!"
