McCarthy Road to Kennecott National Historic Landmark

-- The route from Chitina to McCarthy, Alaska and the former copper mining mill and town of Kennecott (a designated National Historic Landmark) travels along 60 miles of dirt "road." The road is actually the bed of the old Copper River and Northwestern Railroad line built between 1907-1910.  The ride includes a heart-stopping passage across the old Kuskulana Bridge.  Completed in 1910, the bridge spans the Kuskulana River.  It is 525 feet across and the river is 238 feet below!
