History on the Move: The South -- Summer 2013

In Summer 2013, twelve students will spend four weeks studying and experiencing the history, heritage, cultural, and beauty of the American South, traveling from Louisiana to Washington, D.C. History on the Move is a hands-on and experiential approach to learning that encourages students to understand and to engage this country’s rich culture and history in a truly unique and “on-the-move” way. The “classroom” for this group of “History-on-the-Movers” will be historic sites, museums, landscapes, and nature itself as we travel across the southern states of Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama and into the city of Washington, D.C. We’ll even venture into Pennsylvania to explore Civil War history on the 150th anniversary of the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg.
